Formats
As technology has progressed over the last 10-15 years you may have found yourself owning a number of different video cameras in different formats. We are able to transfer from the following video formats:
- VHS
- VHS-C
- 8mm
- Hi-8
- Digital 8
- Mini DV
- AVI Files
Unfortunately we are not able to transfer from Beta at this time. (Stay tuned!)
What are the Benefits of converting my videos to DVD?
- Longer lasting format. Video tapes have only a limited lifespan of around 10 years. DVD is a more stable format that will last ten times as long.
- Not affected by atmospheric conditions. Unlike video tapes DVD's cannot be affected by things like heat, humidity, temperature changes or magnetic fields.
- Won't wear out. A video is a mechanical device whose tape is designed to be extruded from it's case and run across the heads of a player and as such it is susceptible to wear and degradation over time and use. A DVD has no mechanical parts and therefore is not subject to the same problems.
- Do not have to manually rewind/fast forward. A DVD has no time consuming waits. Just simply press a button to move forward or back through chapters.
- Take up less storage space. DVD cases are much slimmer than VHS and therefore take up less room.

Running Time
You can fit about 110 minutes of video onto a Single Layer DVD at full quality. Anything over that requires the use of either two discs, or a Dual Layer Disc.
"What's the difference?"
Most writable discs are what's known as 'Single Layer' discs. This literally means that the disc has one layer of space available to write the information on. For films of extreme length like "Lord of the Rings" or ones with a lot of special features, a different type of disc is used, known as 'Dual Layer'. Again, this literally means that there are two layers of space available to burn the information to, and hence, twice the available size.
Although Dual Layer discs are available, their higher cost makes the conversion more expensive (see Pricing below).
If you have more than 110 minutes to go onto a DVD, two options are available:
- Use a second disc, or
- Use a Dual Layer disc (extra costs apply- see below)
The benefit of a DL Disc of course is that the program doesn't stop half way thru to change discs. (Remember audio cassettes?)
For DL transfers we use Verbatim DVD+R DL

We can also convert your NTSC videos to DVD in PAL format.

At More Than Memories we believe that quality should last a lifetime which is why we use only the best Taiyo Yuden Premium Master DVD-R DVD’s for our authoring needs. These discs are compatible with 98% of consumer DVD players.
For DL transfers we use Verbatim DVD+R DL

In this modern consumer market where quality is constantly compromised for the dollar, we believe that the best service is still worth every cent. Why would you settle for a cheap Video to DVD conversion that offers a basic blank menu (or none at all) and automated chapters halfway through a conversation, when you can get a fully customised and personalised product that is unique to you and your memories.
As a customer you derserve the best. Don't be fooled by companies offering cheap conversions - they are a fully automated process that does not give you the quality that your precious memories deserve.
